Gujarat has seen a lot of rain, with showers recorded in 33 districts and 212 talukas over the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department’s Bhopal Centre has warned of extremely high rainfall in a number of districts, with Dhar, Ujjain, and Sheopur anticipated to be the hardest hit.
These regions are likely to see torrential downpours accompanied by frequent lightning strikes and gusty winds, posing risks of waterlogging and localised flooding.
The IMD has issued a yellow advisory for the next two days due to the intense rainfall that Chennai residents are now experiencing.
Heavy rainfall alert in several Madhya Pradesh districts
The weather department predicted a heavy rainfall for Rajgarh, Alirajpur, Jhabua, Indore, Ratlam, Dewas, Shajapur, Agar, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Guna, Ashoknagar, Shivpuri, Gwalior, Datia, Bhind, Morena, Singrauli, Anuppur, Dindori, Mandla, and Balaghat. These districts may experience intense spells of rain interspersed with thunder and lightning, especially during the afternoon and evening hours.

Madhya Pradesh remains under the grip of relentless monsoon activity as three major rain systems continue to dominate the region’s weather pattern.
On Friday (August 22), an orange alert has been issued for Sheopur, Neemuch, and Mandsaur, where very heavy rainfall is expected to reach up to 8.5 inches within 24 hours.
A yellow alert has also been sounded for several other districts, including Gwalior, Morena, Bhind, Datia, Niwari, Shivpuri, Guna, Ashoknagar, Rajgarh, Ratlam, Agar-Malwa, Anuppur, Dindori, Mandla, and Balaghat, all of which are likely to receive substantial showers.
Widespread rain lashes Gujarat
Heavy rainfall continued across Gujarat over the past 24 hours, with showers reported in 212 talukas across 33 districts.
Valsad’s Pardi taluka recorded the highest rainfall at 4 inches, followed by Dharampur with 3 inches, while Khervagam (Navsari), Kaprada (Valsad) and Talod (Sabarkantha) received more than 2 inches, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC).
IMD has issued a warning to fishermen, advising them not to venture into the sea along Gujarat’s coastal belt from August 22 to 25 due to rough weather conditions.
As of now, the state has received an average of 681.14 mm of rainfall, accounting for 77.24 per cent of the season’s quota.
Thunderstorms in Delhi
IMD has forecast thunderstorms and scattered showers in Delhi for Friday, August 22. However, the real intensity won’t rise until Saturday, when there will likely be a lot of rain in the city, combined with lightning and strong gusts.

As the heavy rain continues in Chennai, experts have suggested that office-goers and school children stay careful. Extreme rainfall is expected in parts of the city.
