Thiruvananthapuram’s Greenfield Stadium likely to host Women’s World Cup 2025 matches

The Greenfield Stadium here is likely to host the Women’s World Cup matches originally allotted to Bengaluru. There had been uncertainty about the games at the Chinnaswamy Stadium following the stampede in June that claimed 11 lives during the celebrations following Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s maiden IPL triumph.

When the Karnataka State Cricket Association failed to secure permission for the World Cup, which was scheduled to begin at the Chinnaswamy stadium on September 30, the BCCI was forced to find an alternate venue.

The BCCI had informed the Kerala Cricket Association a week ago Thiruvananthapuram was being considered. The KCA, it is understood, is willing to take up the offer.

The KCA sources said the Kerala Cricket League, scheduled to be held from August 16 to September 6, will be moved to an alternative venue in Thiruvananthapuram or Alappuzha if the World Cup matches are allotted to Thiruvananthapuram.
