The Hundred latest results: Root and Williamson turn it on as top three are confirmed

The Hundred’s knockout lineup is set, with Trent Rockets, Oval Invincibles, and Northern Superchargers securing the three spots. The last round of league matches will decide who tops the table and advances straight to the final, while the other two contest the eliminator.

Trent Rockets vs Oval Invincibles

Trent Rockets posted an imposing 176, anchored by a brisk 76 from Joe Root, and looked firmly in control when Oval Invincibles needed 102 off 40 balls. But Sam Curran and Jordan Cox unleashed an extraordinary counterattack, adding 96 from just 43 deliveries, including a blistering burst of 51 off 10 balls, to seal a scarcely believable six-wicket win.

Birmingham Phoenix vs Welsh Fire

Spinners Chris Green and Ben Kellway combined for a miserly five for 37 from 35 balls to restrict Birmingham Phoenix to 138. In reply, Steve Smith, Stephen Eskinazi, and Jonny Bairstow all chipped in with assured knocks as Welsh Fire cruised to only its second win of the season by eight wickets.

Northern Superchargers vs Oval Invincibles

A high-scoring thriller saw Northern Superchargers hand the defending champion only its second defeat, winning by 16 runs. Led by Harry Brook’s half-century and strong contributions from Zak Crawley, Dawid Malan, and David Miller, the Superchargers piled up 198. Oval Invincibles kept up in the chase with several brisk starts, but even Donovan Ferreira’s explosive 41 from 15 balls couldn’t prevent the loss.

London Spirit vs Southern Brave

London Spirit’s batting finally clicked, powering it to a 47-run win over Southern Brave. Jamie Smith and Kane Williamson set the tone in a total of 186, while Spirit became the first side this season to take Jofra Archer for more than 20 runs in his spell. In reply, Jason Roy and Laurie Evans found some boundaries, but Brave’s lower order collapsed under the weight of the target.

Welsh Fire vs Trent Rockets

Root once again proved his class, calmly steering Rockets home in a tense finish. Set 151 after Stephen Eskinazi’s fifty and Tom Abell’s 48, the Rockets were cruising before a late collapse left them needing 13 from the last five balls. Root, unbeaten on 64, held his nerve to clinch a three-wicket victory.

Manchester Originals vs Birmingham Phoenix

Birmingham Phoenix ended a poor campaign with a morale-boosting seven-wicket win over Manchester Originals. Liam Livingstone and Benny Howell stifled the scoring to restrict Originals to just 109, before Ben Duckett and Joe Clarke guided Phoenix to a comfortable chase.

Aftermath

With these results, Birmingham Phoenix, Southern Brave, Welsh Fire, London Spirit, and Manchester Originals have all been eliminated.
