Teen dies in Delhi’s Ashok Nagar after being pushed off roof, friend arrested in murder case | Delhi News

A 19-year-old girl has died after she was allegedly pushed off the rooftop of the building where she lived in Northeast Delhi’s Ashok Nagar, police said on Tuesday. The family has accused her friend of killing her. He was arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur, officers said. Police said security has been heightened in the area, amid concerns over communal tensions, as the suspect and the deceased are from different communities.

The incident occurred on Monday morning and was reported to the police around 8.30 am. A police team rushed to the spot after receiving a PCR call, only to find that the girl had already been taken to a hospital.

Her father had rushed her to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital for treatment. The victim succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday. “The girl’s friend was allegedly upset with her because she had stopped talking to him for the past few days. On Monday, he disguised himself in a burqa and went to meet her on the fifth-floor terrace of her apartment building. He told her to come upstairs for a conversation. They likely had an argument there, which escalated when he pushed her off the building,” said an officer.

The family had known the accused for nearly three years, said the elder sister of the deceased.

“We considered him our brother. I don’t know what happened in the last few months. He began insisting on marrying my sister. My family is completely distraught after what has happened,” said the sister.

The father of the deceased works as a security guard, and she recently got a job with a private firm. She could not pursue higher education after Class 12 due to the family’s financial condition. Based on the father’s statement and evidence gathered, a case under BNS sections 109(1) (attempted murder) and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) was registered initially. On Tuesday, Section 103 (murder) was also added to the FIR.
