Back from SzP – very underwhelming movie. Given the theme of disability as backdrop, there is not a single scene akin to depicting the difficulties faced by parents dealing with children with disabilities. The whole tone of the movie is so light that it can’t be taken seriously. Only the marital scenes have some seriousness attached to them. TzP really presented the difficulty parents faced – here no real sense of it. Disappointing that the movie didn’t push the envelope out.

It will have long legs but that’s more due to the feel good theme, the Hirani like candy floss treatment & a tear jerker climax. Aamir’s performance is as over the top & misplaced as PK, D3 & LSC. At 60, he’s a complete misfit for the role of a 40 year old as well and is easily the weakest part of the film. Can hardly remember him being convincing in any film apart from Dangal in the last 15 years. 3/5 seems right, its a decent one time watch but would have been much better with Ayushmaan or Vicky at the helm.

SZP 2.5 + .5 for the real sitaare hence 3/5 stars.
Baradwaj Rangan gets the movie review bang on for this one, many situation seems forced, but the heart is at the right place. It was housefull at my end in Ahmedabad.
Not a classic sports drama like chak de or dangal.
Aamir is also ok, and interestingly i liked the first half more than the second, contrary to what i have read in reaction.
The real stars are the sitaare assemble cast and the story, that takes the centre stage, and makes you question many things about life, first prize, expectations from children and what’s actually normal?
I doubt this will have long legs but would be happy that in today’s time movie like this is even a hit.
Also as cinema i would take Lal Singh over this, but for the real sitaare who make your heart melt.
