After the TNPL demanded concrete proof of malpractice following the Siechem Madurai Panthers’ allegations of ball-tampering against the R. Ashwin-led Dindigul Dragons, the franchise has decided to withdraw the complaint, the league said on Wednesday.
The panthers had demanded an investigation into the towels used in the tournament, suggesting that the opponent was using ‘chemicals’ to alter the condition of the ball.
The franchise demanded an investigation into the source of the towels used in the tournament and a chemical analysis to check for any external substances used to alter the condition of the ball.
During the aforementioned encounter, the Dragons had chased down SMP’s 151-run target with nine wickets in hand and over seven overs to spare. Skipper Ashwin scored a 29-ball 49, while his opening partner Shivam Singh remained unbeaten on 86 off 41 balls to help the side canter to the win.
In response, the TNPL called the allegations ‘unsubstantiated’, requesting the franchise to furnish ‘material evidence’ to add to these claims.

On Wednesday, the league communicated that the Madurai franchise has decided to withdraw its original complaint after being asked to follow the procedural steps for initiating a formal enquiry.
“Following due consideration, the management and coaching staff of SMP have decided to withdraw the complaint in the larger interest of the sport and the smooth conduct of the tournament,” the TNPL release said.
“They have further clarified that the intention behind the complaint was not to bring disrepute to Mr. R. Ashwin, captain of the Dindigul Dragons, the Dindigul Dragons team, the match officials, the TNPL, or the TNCA.
“In light of this withdrawal, the matter is deemed closed and no further action shall be pursued,” it added.
