Popular actor, Rajeev Khandelwal, has seen fame that one cannot even think of. He has no words to even explain the love he got for playing the role of ‘Sujal Grewal in the 2003 hit serial, Kahiin Toh Hoga. Ektaa Kapoor had produced the show, and it made the actor a star overnight. He was loved on Indian Television, but when he reached the pinnacle, the actor decided to come down soon. He shared how everyone started speculating that he had locked horns with Ektaa after he quit the show.
Rajeev Khandelwal opens up on his fight with Ektaa Kapoor after he left Kahiin Toh Hoga
Rajeev became a star with Kahiin Toh Hoga. The actor sat down for an interview with the Screen, shared why he left the show that had Aamna Sharif as the female lead heroine, and spoke about his fight with Ektaa. Rajeev revealed he left the show due to poor quality, as his fees were also not increased. In his words:
“I had a lot of fights with the producers; nobody would be happy when you walk out of a show when it’s doing well. When I was walking out of Kahiin toh Hoga, I went to Shobha (Kapoor) aunty; at that time, asking to leave the show was perceived as the actor wanting more money, which was also offered to me. They said they will increase my remuneration, and I said, Reduce it, but give me quality.”
Rajeev Khandelwal shares that his fans thought he became egoistic
Rajeev, in the interview, confessed that he was truthful to his show, Kahiin Toh Hoga. People did tell him that this is what used to happen, that with serials, one gets famous and then is stuck with the image. The actor shared that when he left the show, his fans told him to buy a home, a few cars and also play romantic leads. The actor confessed that they used to think he had become egoistic, as Rajeev shared:
“People wrote things like, ‘He has become too big for his boots’, but nobody knew the truth. What came across was that I locked horns with Ekta, that I am leaving her, and that I must be thinking that I have arrived. I quit the show at its peak and refused the money and the popularity; so many thought I was egoistic. After I quit Left Right Left, I also knew I was not going to be offered much work in TV now. I realised no producer would give me work.”
Rajeev, going ahead in the interview, revealed that he quit Kahiiin Toh Hoga because he could not handle it. He felt that his fans loved him, and he was not giving them back in terms of quality. Rajeev shared that after his role as ‘Sujal’, he did not want to be known as the romantic fellow who kept brooding. So he worked on a series called Time Bomb. However, the love he had for Kahiin Toh Hoga was something he couldn’t define in words. He had fans who used to wait outside his home, and letters used to slip inside his door.
