Raj5 on Saiyaara | SATYAMSHOT

Watched Saiyaara last night–it’s honestly very solid. Going in, I knew I was watching a Mohit Suri’s brand of love/heartbreak film and it delivers exactly that (for better or for worse). The romantic moments work, and the movie has those couple of dialogues that people will keep quoting.

The chemistry between the newcomers is fresh, and I the songs are even better on screen. This is a very “young” movie and I’m probably too old to be the target audience, but these types of starcrossed lovers movies work in every decade. But I think millenials are risking turning into boomers. I still remember the reception to Aashiqui 2 and how at that time older people said neither the music nor album could touch Aashiqui 1. I’m seeing the same reaction around me here with Saiyaara vs Aashiqui 2. As always, Mohit Suri hits it out of the park with the soundtrack. But most importantly, we finally have two new leads in Bollywood. Both Ahaan and Aneet perform very well for their debut movie, and Ahaan is maybe 100x better than all of his fellow nepo friends who have debuted in the last couple of years. Very curious to see what his next movie will be with YRF (assuming the usual 3-film contract). And yes, the reels are NOT an exaggeration, people around me in my theater were extremely emotional!

Krish was saying this could hit 400 crores–if I was at YRF, I’d be scared that this will outgross War 2 (Hindi collections). They should probably delay the movie especially with Coolie coming as well. The War 2 teaser did not look great on screen, and we don’t even have a single song yet even though its Ayan Mukherjee-Pritam.
