Railways to operate over 200 special trains for Ganpati Festival in Maharashtra


To ease travel for Ganpati devotees heading to their hometowns in the Konkan region, Indian Railways on Tuesday, July 22 announced 250 special trains for the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival.

This measure is aimed at ensuring smooth, accessible, and convenient travel during one of Maharashtra’s most celebrated and widely observed festivals.

These special services will operate between August 22 and September 10, 2025, to connect major cities such as Mumbai, Pune, and Ratnagiri to Konkan destinations like Sawantwadi, Madgaon, and Chiplun, and others. 

Here are details of these trains along with timings & routes:

CSMT – Sawantwadi Road – CSMT Daily Special Trains 

Train services (01151/01152) will be operate with 20 trips each way, departing CSMT at 12:20 am daily and that will reach Sawantwadi Road by 2:20 pm on the same day. In the reverse direction, the journey will begin at 3:35 pm that will arrive at CSMT at 4:35 am following morning. These trains between CSMT–Sawantwadi Road will halt at major Konkan stations, including Dadar, Panvel, Roha, Ratnagiri, and Kankavali. Here is the list of stoppages:

Another daily service trains (01103/01104) that will operate between CSMT and Sawantwadi Road will run with 18 trips each way. This train will depart from Mumbai at 3:30 pm and arrive at Sawantwadi Road at 4 am on the next day. In the return journey, the train journey begin at 4:35 am and will reach at the destination (CSMT) by 4:40 pm.

CSMT – Ratnagiri – CSMT Daily Special Trains

For travelers heading to Ratnagiri, daily special train services (01153/01154) will depart CSMT at 11:30 am and reach Ratnagiri at 8:10 pm. In reverse, the train will start at 4 am the following day, reaching CSMT by 1:30 pm. These two train services will operate from August 22 to September 9 with 36 trips in total.

LTT – Sawantwadi Road – LTT Special Trains

From Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT), multiple trains will run for Sawantwadi Road.

One daily service train (01167/01168) will depart Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) at 9 pm and will reach to the destination (Sawantwadi Road) at 9:20 am the next day. In return journey, the train will depart at 11:35 am and reach LTT by 12:40 am the following day.

Another daily service (01171/01172) will leave LTT at 08:20 am that will arrive at Sawantwadi Road by 9 pm. The return train will depart at 10:35 pm, reaching LTT at 10:40 am the next day. 

LTT – Sawantwadi Road – LTT Weekly Special Trains

In addition to daily services, the railways also operate weekly specials from LTT to Sawantwadi Road. The train (01129/01130) will operate on Tuesdays – August 26, September 2, and September 9. These trains will leave LTT at 08:45 am and reach the destination (Sawantwadi Road) at 10:20 pm the same day. In the reverse direction, the journey start at 11:20 pm, reaching LTT by 11:45 am the next day.

LTT – Madgaon – LTT Special Trains

The government also operate several special trains between LTT and Madgaon. A mixed-class weekly service The train (01185/01186) will leave LTT at 12:45 am on Wednesdays – August 27 and September 3, reaching the destination (Madgaon) at 2:30 pm. The return journey will depart at 4:30 pm, arriving in Mumbai at 4:50 am the next day. Similarly, an AC-only weekly special train (01165/01166) will run on Tuesdays – August 26, September 2, and September 9, with the same timing pattern.

Passengers from Pune can avail of weekly special trains (01447/01448) to Ratnagiri, which will run on Saturdays – August 23, August 30, and September 6, departing Pune at 12:25 am and reaching Ratnagiri at 11:50 am. Return trains will leave at 5:50 pm, arriving in Pune at 5 am the next day. 

Moreover, AC weekly special train (01445/01446) will operate on Tuesdays – August 26, September 2, and September 9, with similar timings and a focus on air-conditioned travel.

To facilitate local commuters, Diva–Chiplun MEMU Daily Unreserved train (01155/01156) will operate from August 23 to September 10, that will Diva at 07:15 am and reaching Chiplun by 2 pm. The return train will leave Chiplun at 3:30 pm and arrive at Diva by 10:50 pm the same day. These MEMU trains will serve over 20 intermediate stations including Panvel, Roha, Khed, and Anjani.

Train compartment details

All reserved services will include a combination of AC-3 Tier, Sleeper Class, General Second Class, and Second Seating-cum-Guard’s brake vans.

Some trains to Madgaon will also have AC-1st Class, pantry cars (locked), and generator cars to support onboard services.

How to book tickets for Ganpati Special trains

Passengers can book their tickets for reservation for Ganpati Special trains from July 24, 2025, at all computerised reservation centres and through the official IRCTC website. While Unreserved tickets can be booked using the UTS mobile app, with standard superfast train charges applicable.
