Former BJP MP Kirron Kher has been served a notice demanding Rs 12.76 lakh in dues related to a government-allotted residence in Chandigarh’s Sector 7, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
The notice, issued by the Chandigarh Assistant Controller (Finance and Controller) Rents office, pertains to the T-6/23 house she occupied during her tenure as a Member of Parliament. Kher represented the Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat in 2014 and 2019, as per news agency PTI.
According to the notice, unpaid licence fees from July 2023 to October 5, 2024, amounted to Rs 5,725. A 100% penalty for unauthorised occupation from October 6, 2024, to January 5, 2025, added Rs 3.64 lakh. From January 6 to April 12, 2025, a 200% penalty raised the total by another Rs 8.20 lakh.
With added interest and miscellaneous charges, including Rs 26,106 in annual interest and Rs 59,680 in other dues, the total payable amount reached Rs 12.76 lakh. Kher has been asked to clear the dues promptly via bank transfer or demand draft to avoid further interest accrual, the agency quoted the officials.
Kirron Kher’s Rare Public Appearance Amid Health Issues
Meanwhile, Kirron Kher and her husband Anupam Kher made headlines with their rare joint appearance at the Tanvi The Great premiere in Mumbai last week. While fans were heartened to see them together, many expressed concern about Kirron’s health.
In 2021, Anupam Kher revealed that Kirron was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer.
At the premiere, Kirron, who has largely stayed out of the spotlight, was accompanied by Anupam and their son Sikandar. Videos circulating on social media show Kirron walking while holding Anupam’s hand, with him gently guiding and assisting her.
For the occasion, Kirron wore a red embroidered ethnic outfit paired with statement earrings and a silver handbag. Anupam opted for a classic charcoal tuxedo with a black shirt and bow tie.
