IND vs ENG highlights India Build 96 Run Lead After Day 3 KL Rahul Shubman Gill

The opening Test of the five-match series between India and England at Headingley, Leeds, saw rain playing spoilsport on Day 3, forcing an early end to play.

At stumps, India were 90 for 2 in their second innings, with a lead of 96 runs over England. KL Rahul remained unbeaten on 47, while captain Shubman Gill was not out on 6 at the other end.

India Take First Innings Lead

After being asked to bat first by England, India posted a strong total of 471 in their first innings.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant all scored centuries to anchor the innings. In reply, England fought back with a solid performance, scoring 465. Ollie Pope smashed a brilliant century, and Harry Brook fell agonisingly short of a hundred, getting dismissed on 99.

For India, Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with figures of 5 wickets. Prasidh Krishna claimed 3 wickets, while Mohammad Siraj picked up 2.

Rahul Leads India’s Second Innings

Coming out to bat in the second innings with a 6-run lead, India lost Yashasvi Jaiswal early for just 4 runs to Brydon Carse. KL Rahul and debutant Sai Sudarshan then added 66 runs for the second wicket to steady the innings. However, Ben Stokes broke the partnership by dismissing Sudarshan for 30.

With KL Rahul approaching his half-century and Shubman Gill settling in, India will look to build a formidable lead on Day 4 and push for a strong position in the match.

India currently hold a 96-run lead in their second innings and will be aiming to stretch that advantage to somewhere around the 300-run mark — a total that could put them in a winning position.

However, with the match so delicately poised, it’s difficult to say which team has the upper hand at this stage. Every session from here on will be crucial in determining the outcome of this tightly-contested Test.
