India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant returned to bat despite a broken foot on the second day of the fourth Test against England in Manchester.
The Old Trafford audience greeted Pant with a standing ovation and loud cheers as he hobbled out onto the field.
Pant was hit on his right foot on Wednesday off an inside edge while attempting a reverse sweep against Chris Woakes. He subsequently went off the field on a stretcher and was taken for scans.
According to reports, the 27-year-old had suffered a fracture on his foot. Sportstar reported that doctors had advised Pant a rest of six weeks to recover from the hit.
On Thursday, the BCCI confirmed that Pant will not be taking on the wicketkeeping role, but would bat if required. However, the board did not disclose the extent of his injury.
Pant, resuming his innings on 37, walked out to bat after the wicket of Shardul Thakur, with India at 314 for six.
