A 45-year-old man employed by a food delivery app died in a freak accident when he slipped into a swimming pool on the 22nd floor of a South Mumbai building on Monday, the police said.
Imran Khodaja, a Dongri resident, was on his way to deliver food in a building near the Grant Road railway station. He was talking on the phone when the accident took place, around 11.45 pm.
CCTV footage from the building showed Khodaja walk past the swimming pool on the 22nd floor and fall into it, the police said.
Those who had ordered food came out to check for Khodaja as their security guard had said the delivery boy had been on his way. They found the man’s body, following which he was taken to a local hospital, where he was declared dead. Later, the Gamdevi police were alerted about the incident.
The police contacted Khodaja’s family members and recorded the statement of his brother, who said he did not have any suspicion against anyone regarding the death.
The police have filed an accidental death report in the matter.
An officer said that the police do not suspect any foul play as it can be clearly seen in the CCTV footage that Khodaja was talking on the phone when he slipped into the swimming pool.
