Tamil Nadu wicketkeeper-batter N. Jagadeesan on Friday fell just three runs short of scoring a double century for South Zone in its Duleep Trophy semifinal against North Zone at the BCCI Centre of Excellence.
The 29-year-old was run out on 197 on the second day with Ricky Bhui at the other end.
This would have been the third time Jagadeesan would have scored 200 or more in First-Class cricket. His highest score stands at 321, which he got against Chandigarh in the Ranji Trophy in 2024.
Only 10 batters have struck double tons for South Zone till date.
But Jagadeesan extended his purple patch with this innings. He had tallied 674 runs in 13 innings in the Ranji Trophy last season at an average of 56. He also notched up two centuries and five half centuries.
For his exploits last season, Jagadeesan was called up to the Indian team for the fifth Test as replacement for Rishabh Pant during the England tour.
