Delhi’s first ice-skating rink of international standards to come up in Dwarka; check out details | Delhi News

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) will construct the city’s first international-standard ice skating rink at its sports complex in Sector-23, Dwarka. Spread over 4,200 sq m, the facility will feature a 60m x 30m rink and aims to promote niche winter sports and offer a new indoor recreational space in the Capital.

According to DDA officials, the rink will serve both recreational visitors and sportspersons, providing a venue for training in ice skating, ice hockey, figure skating, and curling. The project is part of efforts to improve sports infrastructure in Delhi and expand options for indoor activities, particularly during the city’s extended summer months.

A statement from the DDA said that an agency has been selected through a bidding process, and the site has been handed over. The project will be developed on a licence fee basis for 15 years. The agency is expected to construct and operate the facility in collaboration with international partners via a joint venture or special purpose vehicle (SPV).

The proposed ice-skating rink will be located within the cloverleaf of the Dwarka Sports Complex, near the junction of Dwarka Expressway and the airport tunnel to IGI Airport’s Terminal 3. It is the latest in a series of recreational initiatives taken up by the DDA under the guidance of Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena.

“With growing interest in niche sports such as Ice Hockey, Ice Skating, Figure Skating, and Curling across India, Hon’ble LG had directed DDA officials to explore the possibilities of creating such facility in Delhi itself. It was observed that spaces in the National Capital for the enthusiasts to train, participate, and for organisers to host events in these sporting activities remain limited and hence it was decided to create an Ice Skating Ring,” the statement from DDA said.

Festive offer

Earlier this week, the DDA also finalised an agency to operate hot air balloon rides at four locations across the city — Asita, Baansera, Yamuna Sports Complex, and Commonwealth Games Village Sports Complex.

Officials said the skating rink project aligns with ongoing efforts to develop Dwarka as a modern, self-sustained sub-city, while also expanding Delhi’s overall recreational infrastructure.
