Delhi Police arrest key member of Thak-Thak gang on run for over 5 years | Delhi News

The Delhi Police Crime Branch on Thursday arrested Suraj alias Michael, a notorious criminal who had been evading law enforcement for over five years, officers said Saturday.

Suraj is allegedly a key member of the Thak-Thak gang, which has been actively operating in Delhi and nearby regions for over a decade, the police said. The gang is infamous for its involvement in organised crimes such as robbery, burglary, snatching, motor vehicle theft, and possession of illegal arms. Suraj has been implicated in around 30 criminal cases registered across various police stations, the police said.

The arrest occurred after a case registered in 2020 at Ambedkar Nagar police station was filed under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). The First Information Report (FIR) named gang leader P Silva and his associates, including Suraj, for their involvement in a wide range of organised criminal activities.

According to the police, due to the gang’s structured operations and blatant disregard for the law, provisions of MCOCA were invoked to dismantle their operations. While several other members of the gang were apprehended during the initial investigation, Suraj managed to evade arrest and was declared a Proclaimed Offender by the court in December 2024.

Aditya Gautam, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Crime Branch, said, “The team developed intelligence to narrow down Suraj’s location. After continuous monitoring and analysis of multiple leads, the suspect’s movements were tracked to the Inderpuri area of Delhi. On June 19, the team successfully apprehended the fugitive during a targeted operation.”

During questioning, Suraj allegedly admitted to being a long-time associate of gang leader Silva and disclosed that he had been actively involved in the gang’s operations since 2013. The police said he also revealed that despite suffering a serious road accident nearly a decade ago, he stuck to his criminal lifestyle. To avoid detection, Suraj had relocated from Ambedkar Nagar to Inderpuri, where he continued illegal activities while staying under the radar of law enforcement.

Authorities are now reviewing his involvement in other unsolved cases and are expected to expand the investigation to trace any remaining associates still at large.
