College girl, toddler killed in separate truck accidents | Pune News


A 19-year-old college student and a one-and-a-half-year-old girl lost their lives in two separate road accidents involving speeding trucks in Sinhagad and Khadki areas of Pune on Thursday.

Sai Shrikant Bhagwat, a third-year Bachelor of Arts student at S P College, died after her two-wheeler was hit by a truck in Tukai Nagar along Sinhagad Road. The accident took place around 1 pm when Bhagwat, a resident of Bhansali Campus in Vadgaon Budruk, was on her way home. The truck, which had just unloaded cement bags nearby, struck her from the left, causing severe head injuries. She was rushed to a private hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Following the incident, her mother, Deepshree Shrikant Bhagwat (48), lodged a complaint at Sinhagad Road police station. The driver fled the scene after the accident and efforts are on to trace him. Police Sub-Inspector Madhuri Kajale is investigating the case.

Earlier that day, a one-and-a-half-year-old girl died in a similar mishap in Khadki’s Sarvatra Vihar area. The child, identified as Aija Sheikh, was playing outside her house near the Labour Camp when she was struck by a passing truck around 12 noon.

Following the accident, her mother, Zeba Shahin Zahid Sheikh (25), filed a complaint at Khadki police station. The driver, identified as Shrikant Reddy (44), has been booked, and Senior Police Inspector Dilip Fulpagare is leading the investigation.
