According to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) new norms, Class 10 board examinations will be conducted twice a year starting from 2026. The announcement was made by examination controller Sanyam Bhardwaj on Tuesday, June 25.

As per the approved guidelines, it will be mandatory for students to appear in the first phase of the board exams, while the second phase will remain optional. The results of the first exam phase will be declared in April, and the second in June.

CBSE has also clarified that internal assessment for Class 10 will be conducted only once, even if a student opts to appear in both phases of the examination. 

Exams in two phases

Students in Class 10 will be required to participate in the first phase, which will take place in February.

Those who wish to improve their marks, may choose to appear in the second round, which is set for May.

CBSE’s new rules for Class 10 students

CBSE approved the new rules for Class 10 students based on the National Education Policy (NEP). This will benefit students and reduce pressure from board exams as this will provide them two chances in an academic year.

Results
According to Bhardwaj, the results of the first exam will be announced in April and those of the second in June.

Students can attempt to raise their scores in up to three subjects—Science, Math, Social Science, and Languages.
