At least two people have been killed and several remain injured after multiple firefighters were attacked and shot at during a firefighting operation in US’ north Idaho’s Canfield Mountain near Coeur d’Alene, sheriff have said.
The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office informed that firefighters were responding to a fire at Canfield Mountain around 1:30 pm on Sunday, when gunshots were reported in the area.
Police said that they are dealing with an “active shooting” situation and they are still taking “sniper fire”. “We don’t know if there’s one, two three or four. We will neutralize this threat,” said Kootenai County Sheriff Robert Norris, according to CNN.
Informing about the shooting incident, Idaho’s Governor Brad Little posted on X “This is a heinous direct assault on our brave firefighters. I ask all Idahoans to pray for them and their families as we wait to learn more.”
