Ashwin signs up for ILT20 auction days after announcing IPL retirement – reports

Former Indian cricketer R. Ashwin has enrolled himself for the ILT20 auctions days after announcing his retirement from the Indian Premier League, reports said on Sunday.

The T20 league based in the UAE will be held between December 2 and January 4, with the auction taking place on September 30. The last date of registration will be on September 10.

“I have sent my name for the ILT20 auction. Hopefully, I will have a buyer,” Ashwin told Cricbuzz.

Robin Uthappa, Yusuf Pathan and Ambati Rayudu are the only other Indian cricketers to have featured in the league.

Ashwin, who made a comeback to the Chennai Super Kings ahead of the 2025 season, announced via a social media post on August 27 that he will be hanging up his boots from India’s premier T20 tournament.

“Special day and hence a special beginning. They say every ending will have a new start. My time as an IPL cricketer comes to a close today, but my time as an explorer of the game around various leagues begins today,” the spinner said.

Ashwin had retired from international cricket in December last year during the tour of Australia after a decorated career that saw him become India’s second-highest wicket-taker (537) in Tests behind Anil Kumble (619).
