Agri & Farmer Income: Own Murrah or Jafarabadi buffalo? This state offers up to Rs 90,750/animal subsidy


To increase employment and promote dairy farming, The Nitish Kumar-led government has launched an initiative to those have a buffalo as pet or dairy farming in rural areas.

With launching Samagra Bhains Palan Yojana 2025-26, the scheme targets unemployed youth, farmers, and livestock rearers by offering financial assistance to set up dairy units with high-yielding buffalo breeds.

The main objective of the scheme is to support farmers economically by providing them with subsidies for setting up dairy units consisting of one or two milch buffaloes of improved breeds such as Murrah, Jaffarabadi, and Bhadawari. This will help farmer to produce more milk and strengthen the rural economy.

Last date to apply

To avail the benefit of this scheme, the application registration will be open for farmers or pet-owners on June 25, 2025, and will continue until July 25, 2025.

Subsidy details

Beneficiaries will receive a subsidy ranging between 50 per cent to 75 per cent of the total cost of the dairy unit on up to two female lactating buffalos, depending on their social category:

  • For Extremely Backward Classes (EBCs), Scheduled Castes (SCs), and Scheduled Tribes (STs):
  • One buffalo unit (Rs 1,21,000) – Subsidy: Rs 90,750

How much subsiby will government provide to general and other categories:

  • One buffalo unit – Subsidy: Rs 60,500

  • The scheme will be implemented across all districts by the respective District Animal Husbandry Officers (DAHOs)
  • Only complete and error-free applications will be considered
  • Units must consist of Murrah, Jaffarabadi, or Bhadawari buffalo breeds to qualify

  • Recent passport-size photograph
  • Aadhaar Card
  • Updated land ownership receipt
  • Caste certificate (if applicable)
  • Departmental training certificate
  • Updated bank passbook
