FSSAI seizes 6,500 kg adulterated ghee worth Rs 35 lakh from Rajkot dairy


The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has seized about 6,500 kg of adulterated ghee worth nearly Rs 35 lakh from M/s Korova Milk Product Private Limited, a dairy unit in Rajkot, Gujarat.

This move is part of FSSAI’s Special Ghee Surveillance Drive to prevent ghee from being mixed with foreign fats.

During an initial inspection, ghee samples were sent to an FSSAI-approved laboratory, which confirmed the products were sub-standard and contained vegetable fat, breaking the Food Safety and Standards Regulations, 2011.

The dairy unit had given one month to challenge the findings by sending samples to any referral laboratory, but it did not react, FSSAI said in a statement.

During a follow-up inspection on August 20, 2025, all stocks of food, including finished products, were confiscated from the premises. New samples were also collected for testing.

Further legal and regulatory steps will now be initiated by the Central Licensing Authority on the basis of final lab results.

FSSAI engendered strict adherence to the zero tolerance approach toward food adulteration, emphasising the consumer rights to safe and pure food.

The authority warned that any violation shall attract appropriate penal action as per provisions of FSS Act.
