Nifty50 rises for 5th day in a row, reclaims 25,000; index’s longest winning run in 10 weeks

Domestic equity benchmarks rose on Wednesday amid gains in pockets like IT, FMCG and metal shares, though losses in financial stocks limited the upside. Both headline indices closed higher for the fifth session in a row–their longest winning run since June 10.

Both main indices rose 0.3 per cent for the day. The Sensex gained 213.5 points to end at 81,857.8 while the Nifty50 added 69.9 points to settle at 25,050.6.

The Nifty Bank — whose 12 constituents include SBI and HDFC Bank — gave up 287.8 points, or 0.3 per cent, to settle at 55,702.1.

Infosys, TCS, Nestle India, HUL, NTPC, Tech Mahindra and Tata Consumer Products — closing between 1.8 per cent and 3.8 per cent higher — rose the most among the 28 gainers in the Nifty50 basket.

On the other hand, BEL, Shriram Finance, Bajaj Finance, Tata Motors and IndusInd Bank — closing between 1.0 per cent and 2.2 per cent lower — were the top losers in the 50-blue-chip pack.

Among index heavyweights, Infosys, TCS, HUL, Bharti Airtel and Eternal were the biggest contributors to the gains in both main gauges. On the flipside, RIL, ICICI Bank and Bajaj Finance imparted the maximum pressure.
