The opening day of the fifth and final Test between England and India, being held at the Oval in London, was interrupted due to rain in the very first session of play.
First inspection postponed
The first pitch inspection was scheduled to be held at 6:30 PM IST. However, it has now been pushed back to 7 PM IST.
After 23 overs were bowled, a heavy downpour led to Lunch being taken prematurely, with India in a bit of trouble at 72 for two. Gus Atkinson made an impressive return to Test cricket by dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal in the fourth over of the match, before Chris Woakes induced an inside edge from KL Rahul that rattled the batter’s stumps. From there on, Sai Sudharsan and skipper Shubman Gill stitched an unbeaten 34-run partnership to stabilise the innings before rain made its presence felt.
