ENG vs IND: Gill breaks Gavaskar’s record for most runs by Indian captain in Test series

Shubman Gill became the highest-scoring Indian captain in a Test series during the opening day of the fifth Test against England at the Oval in London on Thursday.

Gill went past Sunil Gavaskar’s tally of 732 runs, which came during a Test series against West Indies at home in 1978.

Earlier in the day, Gill had surpassed Garry Sobers to register the record for most runs by a visiting captain in a Test series in England.

With 737 runs under his belt in the ongoing series so far, Gill has had a promising start to his journey as Test captain.
