Rain lashes 177 talukas in Gujarat, CM reviews situation; IMD issues orange alert for today | Ahmedabad News


As many as 177 talukas across the state received rainfall on Sunday, with Daskroi in Ahmedabad recording the highest of 257 mm rainfall in 12 hours.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel visited the State Emergency Control Room on Sunday morning to review the situation in the state.

Districts of Kheda, Ahmedabad, Patan, Aravalli, Banaskantha also received heavy rainfall.

The CM held telephonic conversations with the district collectors of Surendranagar, Patan, Aravalli, Ahmedabad, Mehsana, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, and Kheda to gather insights into the rainfall-induced situation in their respective districts.

Within 12 hours on Sunday, Nadiad, Mehmedabad, Matar, Mahudha, Vaso, Kathlal and Kheda — all in Kheda district recorded 222 mm, 216 mm, 182 mm, 147 mm, 140 mm, 135 mm and 118 mm of rainfall, respectively.

In the last 24 hours (ending 5 pm on Sunday) Vadgam in Banaskantha received 191 mm followed by Modasa in Aravalli 158 mm, Talod in Sabarkantha 135 mm, Siddhpur in Patan 131 mm and Kaprada in Valsad 125 mm.

The state has so far recorded 58.22 per cent of the average rainfall received during the monsoon season, stated the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC), Gandhinagar.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall for Banaskantha, Sabarkantha and Aravalli for Monday.

The Chief Minister also directed all district collectors to remain alert, continuously monitor the rainfall situation, ensure the administrative machinery remains vigilant, and maintain constant coordination with the SEOC to provide timely updates on the conditions in their districts.

While several parts of Ahmedabad received heavy rainfall on Sunday morning, light showers were witnessed throughout the day.

Vatva in the South zone received the highest of 147.5 mm from 6 am till 4 pm, followed by Ramol in the east with 119.5 mm.

Several areas in these parts of Ahmedabad were seen water logged as out of a total of 25 complaints of waterlogging, 10 from the south zone were received by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s control room. Six complaints from the east zone and four each from the north west and south west zone were reported.

The city received an average of 51.59 mm rainfall.

Among zones, the south zone received the highest of 127.25 mm, followed by the southwest zone with 59.8 mm and east zone at 54 mm on Sunday till 4 pm.

Other areas in the southwest zone that received heavy rainfall were Sarkhej 29.5 mm and Jodhpur 25.5 mm.

Some of the underpasses, including Mithakali, in these areas were closed for traffic in the morning. Maninagar in the south zone received 107 mm and Maktampra and Sarkhej in southwest zone 89.5 mm and 69 mm, respectively, Vasna in the west zone recorded 88.5 mm. The northwest, central and north zones received the lowest of an average of 23.25 mm, 39 mm and 17.17 mm rainfall, respectively.

Due to several systems, including a well-marked low pressure area over northwest Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood, a trough from cyclonic circulation associated with the well -marked low pressure area over northwest Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood, monsoon trough that continues to pass through Bikaner, Kota, well -marked low pressure area along with an off-shore trough at sea level along Gujarat- north Kerala coasts, Gujarat is expected to receive heavy rainfall till July 31.

Dip in temperature

With the widespread rainfall, most of the centres in the state recorded a maximum temperature of below 30 degree Celsius.

Ahmedabad recorded 27.3 degree Celsius, Gandhinagar 27.8, Deesa 29.4, Vadodara 29.4, Surat and Rajkot 29.5, Dwarka 29.9, Surendranagar 28.3, and Keshod recorded 29.1 degree Celsius.

The highest of 32 degree Celsius was recorded in Naliya and Kandla Airport.
