The BJP government is planning to build its own state guest house in the Capital. At present, Delhi does not have a state guest house, unlike other states like Tamil Nadu, Goa, and Uttar Pradesh.
Officials said the matter was discussed in a recent review meeting between Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh and senior officials from the department.
Singh said that three land parcels have been identified for the guest house — in Laxmi Nagar, Qutub Institutional Area near Adchini and Lajpat Nagar.
“Near Qutub Institutional Area, Delhi government has land spread across 30-40 acres… the land was given to the Haryana government on lease for 40 years to develop a nursery… The lease period is over now, so the government is planning to take the land back,” said a senior official.
“The government will take a final decision following which further work will begin…,” the official added.

However, this is not the first time that a plan to build a state guest house for Delhi has been floated.
The previous AAP government had proposed to develop a ‘Dilli Sadan’ in Dwarka’s Sector 19 in 2022. The Tourism department had also appointed a consultant to prepare a detailed project report with a target to complete the construction of the guest house in three years.

As per the plan, the government had proposed VVIP and VIP suites, single guest rooms, parking area, meeting rooms, conference rooms, dining space, restaurant, souvenir shops and others on a land measuring over 3,000 sq ft. However, the project did not take off.
Also, BJP leaders had earlier mulled converting the Civil Lines bungalow, where former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal used to stay, as a state guest house.
Many states and Union territories like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Jammu and Kashmir, Sikkim, Goa, Punjab, Arunachal Pradesh and Lakshadweep, among others, provide accommodation to dignitaries and senior officials from their respective states in their state guest houses. At present, Delhi has 33 such state bhavans, sadans and guest houses.
