In two separate operations, the central anti-smuggling law enforcement agencies on Wednesday arrested two men with marijuana worth Rs 12.2 crore at the Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA).
The accused hail from Kerala and Gujarat, officials said adding that they were smuggling marijuana from Bangkok and Malaysia.
In the first operation, acting on specific intelligence, the DRI detained one Muneer Kuzhiyil, 41, when he arrived at the CSMIA from Etihad Airways EY206.
He was travelling from Bangkok to India via Abu Dhabi. When his trolley bag was searched multiple vacuum sealed packets were found. When these packets were cut open and tested on a narcotic drug field testing kit, the result was found positive for marijuana. A total of 7,287 g of marijuana worth Rs 7.28 crore was seized and Kuzhiyil was subsequently arrested, sources said.
Similarly, the Customs officials early Wednesday arrested Shailesh Vankar on the basis of spot profiling after five packets stuffed with five kg of Marijuana were found from his trolley bag. Vankar had arrived from Malaysia via Malaysian Airlines MH194. He was subsequently arrested.

The accused have been arrested under relevant sections of NDPS Act for carrying more than a small quantity of a marijuana.
