Aamir Khan’s son, Junaid Khan, has starred in two films as the lead character. A third film is on the way. And yet, he doesn’t own a car, and has no intention of buying one. According to Aamir, Junaid also turned down his offer to buy him a car because he prefers using public transport. In an interview, Aamir recalled an anecdote about Junaid taking a state bus over a flight, and said that Junaid lives in his own world, and doesn’t care much for material possessions.
Aamir told The New Indian that this is likely because neither does he, nor his two ex-wives, Reena Dutta and Kiran Rao. He said that Junaid has been raised to embrace simplicity, which he does. The young actor is often spotted hopping in an out of autorickshaws across the city of Mumbai. Once, he wasn’t allowed to enter Yash Raj Studios because he’d arrived in an auto, and had to tell the security there that he was, in fact, the star of one of their films. This anecdote was shared by his Maharaj co-star Jaideep Ahlawat.

Explaining his son’s contrarian choices, Aamir said, “All three of my children are very sensitive. During the pandemic, both Reena’s parents caught the virus together, and Junaid immediately offered to move in with them. For two weeks, he took care of them alone, and made sure that they were okay, because even the help wasn’t around then. It just shows what a sensitive person he is. I felt very proud.”
Aamir continued, “You’d be shocked to know that Junaid hasn’t bought a car ever. He’s done two movies. He uses public transport. I’m tired of telling him to get a car; he can take one of mine, I have cars. He says, ‘No, dad, I don’t need a car, I just book an OLA’. He was in Kerala one time, and he had to attend a friend’s wedding in Bengaluru. I asked him what flight he’s on, and he said that he’s taking the overnight state transport bus. He’s an unusual kind of person. But they were never raised to be materialistic. I don’t care for money much myself.”
In a past interview with Connect Cine, Junaid dismissed his father’s concerns, and said that he is simply being efficient. “Papa makes a big deal out of small things. I just travel the most efficient way of traveling. I often take rickshaws in Mumbai because it is easier to get around and not worry about parking,” he said.
