Aamir Khan’s latest film Sitaare Zameen Par continues to shine at the box office. After a solid first week, early estimates show the film earned Rs 6.5 crore on its second Friday (Day 8), taking the total domestic collection to Rs 94.4 crore. If this momentum holds, the film is expected to cross the Rs 100 crore milestone on Saturday—marking a major achievement in its theatrical run.
While the film has found takers across India, it’s the southern cities that are helping keep the numbers strong. On Friday, Sitaare Zameen Par recorded an overall Hindi occupancy of 18.43 per cent, gradually climbing through the day—from just 7.07 per cent in the morning to over 31 per cent by night. Chennai led the way with a remarkable 54.67 per cent occupancy, while Bengaluru followed at 28.25 per cent. Surprisingly, traditional big markets like Mumbai and NCR were quieter, posting 18.5 and 19 per cent respectively.
Southern support and regional versions doing the heavy lifting
What’s worked in the film’s favour is its reach beyond just the Hindi-speaking belt. The Tamil version of the film is seeing better-than-expected traction with an occupancy of 26.05 per cent, even ahead of the Hindi version in several pockets. The Telugu dub is also performing steadily, drawing a 17.68 per cent response on Friday.

In global terms, the film has already brought in Rs 140.38 crore in its first week, and is now eyeing the lifetime collections of Thugs of Hindostan (Rs 145.55 crore) and Kesari Chapter 2 (Rs 145.73 crore). It has already comfortably surpassed Sunny Deol’s Jaat, which closed at Rs 120.6 crore worldwide.
Aamir says no to OTT, backs theatres for the long haul
Even as new releases like Brad Pitt’s F1: The Move and Kajol’s Maa enter theatres this week, Aamir Khan remains confident that Sitaare Zameen Par will hold its ground. And he’s backing that belief in a big way—literally.

During promotions, the actor had announced that the film wouldn’t be heading to any streaming platform for at least a year. He even turned down a whopping Rs 120 crore OTT deal to stay true to this vision. For Aamir, it’s not just about numbers—it’s about ensuring audiences return to cinemas, and that films have the space to build lasting theatrical legacies.
In a time when many movies rush to OTT within weeks, Sitaare Zameen Par seems to be making a case for patience—and for the magic of the big screen.
