Manushi Chhillar, former Miss World and founder of Project Shakti, has continued her efforts to spread menstrual health and hygiene awareness. As part of her latest initiative, Chhillar recently visited a school in Mumbai to engage directly with young girls, educating them about menstruation, distributing sanitary pads, and encouraging open discussions to help reduce stigma around the subject.
Manushi Chhillar expands Project Shakti to promote menstrual health among young girls
Through Project Shakti, Chhillar has consistently focused on menstrual health advocacy across India. During the COVID-19 lockdown, she publicly urged state governments to ensure the free distribution of sanitary pads and essential supplies to women affected by the crisis, particularly those unable to access resources due to financial hardship or restricted mobility.
Project Shakti has previously worked across both rural and urban areas, reportedly supporting over 5,000 women in 20 villages. Chhillar’s efforts in this field earned her the Beauty with a Purpose award at Miss World. Beyond India, she has also led menstrual health campaigns in Africa and launched a project that provides low-cost, compostable sanitary pads.
Chhillar’s menstrual health work is part of her wider involvement in health awareness initiatives. Through Project Shakti, she has also contributed to World AIDS Day activities, indicating a broader interest in public health and education.
The recent school visit signals a shift in focus towards early-age awareness, aiming to normalise conversations around menstrual hygiene among adolescents. By targeting younger age groups, Chhillar seeks to promote early education and long-term behavioural change regarding menstrual health.
On the professional front, Manushi Chhillar has two upcoming Bollywood projects: Maalik alongside Rajkummar Rao and Tehran with John Abraham. The films are expected to showcase her in distinct roles, marking her continued presence in the Indian film industry.
Chhillar has not released any further details regarding the next phase of Project Shakti but continues to actively promote menstrual health education as part of her ongoing mission.
