The Chandigarh Police has arrested two individuals allegedly involved in a late-night firing incident at a house in Hallomajra.
The accused have been identified as Vinod, a 38-year-old resident of Phase-II, Ram Darbar, Chandigarh, and Hardev Singh, 33, from village Mankiya in district Panchkula, Haryana. Both are matriculates and work as chair maker and carpenter respectively.
Police have recovered one pistol and one desi katta (country-made gun) from the accused’s possession.
The case was registered on the complaint of Amit Jaiswal, a resident of Hallomajra in Chandigarh. According to his statement, the incident took place on the night of July 10. Jaiswal returned home around 11.30 pm and was informed by his mother that she had heard what sounded like bursting of firecrackers outside their house.
Later, at around 12.50 am, while he was in his room, he heard gunshots. Alarmed, he rushed downstairs and looked out through the main gate, only to witness a masked man firing shots towards their house. When he shouted in alarm, the masked assailant allegedly fired in his direction with an intention to kill, the complainant claimed. As he stepped out, he noticed two men fleeing through an adjacent vacant plot while brandishing firearms. Before escaping, the accused reportedly threatened him with dire consequences.

Based on this complaint, a case was registered at police station in Sector 31, Chandigarh, under Sections 109, 351(2), 351(3), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, along with relevant provisions of the Arms Act including Sections 25, 27, 54, and 59. The investigation led to the arrest of two suspects.
According to the police, Vinod has a long history of criminal activity. Police records revealed that he has been involved in at least eight previous cases registered under various serious charges including assault, criminal intimidation, unlawful assembly, and violations of the Arms Act. Some of these cases were filed in Chandigarh, while others in Mohali. In contrast, the second accused, Hardev, does not have any prior criminal record. The police are currently investigating his role and the nature of his involvement in the incident.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the attack, the origin of the illegal weapons, and whether more individuals were part of the conspiracy.
